October 9

The 9th of October is the Day of the Valencian Community. This date commemorates the entry of King Jaume I the Conqueror to Valencia in 1238. Jaume I expelled the Arabs from the city of Valencia and ended his rule.

Currently in Valencia is a holiday when multiple events are organized. For example, you can visit medieval market, musical concerts, floral offering. In addition, the same day in Valencia is celebrated the Entry of Moors and Christians. The detailed schedule of the events of October 9 can be found here.

On the other hand, October 9 is San Dionís also known as Macadorá. In Valencia it is traditionally celebrated as Valentine’s Day. In this way, men give typical women marzipan sweets wrapped in a typical handkerchief.
