On Friday July 6 at 5 pm our Spanish school Escuela El Tandem will host a unique event called Gabinete Poético performed by Vudú Teatro – one of the Valencia’s alternative theatres. Read on to find out what you can look forward to.
Imagine that you are attending a theatre performance without knowing what is awaiting you. When you arrive to the place, you are directed to a small dark room which can be a bathroom, a pantry, who knows. You are welcomed with an accordion and then you are asked to choose some objects and give them names. Your decisions are what create this poetry performance, shadow play, music and improvisation.
There is only one main protagonist. He’s not only an actor, but also a musician, poet and manipulator. The performance takes place in a small intimate place with just two chairs, a table and a suitcase and is for one spectator only (can be a couple). The actor welcomes you with a short musical performance during which he explains the rules. Then you choose three objects from the suitcase and give them a random name based on your associations. During the next minute the actor creates a poem based on the real objects and the names you gave them. What follows is a shadow play and music. The outcome of this unique and intimate experience is a paper with poem that you will take home.
The author came up with the idea of intimate theatre in 2014. In 2007 he studied tarot and psychomagic in Paris where he got the idea of mixing three elements in his plays – lambe-lambe (a brief performance with puppets inside the box), tarot, and the relation between words and objects. Each session takes around 8-10 minutes and people take turns one by one. If you want to take part but don’t want to wait for your turn, write the exact time you are available on the attendance sheet that you can get at our reception. The theatre is in Spanish so it’s a great opportunity to boost your Spanish learning and improve your vocabulary. Don’t worry, the actor speaks English as well.
