In our post today we have prepared a cheat sheet for your Spanish lessons that will help you with the use of possessives. The possessives in Spanish can be before or after the noun and without it. The possessives do not agree with the corresponding grammatical person but agree with the object of which we speak. Below you can see the possessives used before the noun:

Singular
Mi libro / amiga = My book / friend
Tu coche / tía = Your car / aunt
Su hermano / botella = Your brother / bottle
Nuestro primo / nuestra escuela = Our cousin / our school
Vuestro gato / vuestra casa= Your cat / your house
Su perro/ película = Your dog / movie

Plural
Mis libros / amigas = My books / friends
Tus coches /tías = Your cars / aunts
Sus hermanos / botellas = Your brother / bottle
Nuestros primos / nuestras escuelas = Our cousins / our schools
Vuestro gato / vuestras casas = Your cats / your houses
Sus perros / sus películas = Your dogs / movies

How you can see en examples, mi, tu and su agree with the objects of which we speak they agree only in number. Nuestro and vuestro agree in gender and number.

On the other hand, the possessives that go after the noun, agree with the genre and number as with articles.

Singular
Un libro mío / una taza mía = A book of mine / a cup of mine
Ese coche tuyo / aquella prima tuya = That car of yours / that cousin of yours
Otro billete suyo / otra casa suya = Another ticket of yours / another house of yours
Otro perro nuestro / otra tía nuestra = Another dog our / other aunt our
Ese bolso vuestro / esa botella vuestra = That bag of yours / that bottle of yours
Un gato suyo / una piscina suya = A cat of his / a pool of hers

Unos libros míos / unas tazas mías = Some books of mine / some cups of mine
Esos coches tuyos / aquellas primas tuyas = Those cars of yours / those cousins of yours

However, you may have a question about how to quantify, for example, if you speak not of all your cars, but of your second car. For this you will need to know the use of ordinal numbers in Spanish:

Mi secunda casa = my second home

You want to know how the ordinal numbers are formed? So check our post about it!
