Route 99 is a new initiative that will take us to discover small and beautiful villages in the Valencian Community. Our Spanish school, El Rincón del Tándem in Valencia, will tell you more in this post 😊

As we have already stated in many of our previous posts, the Valencian Community has a rich and varied natural, cultural and historical heritage.

Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful ways to get to know it is hiking and excursions that take us to rural or inland areas that are rarely visited.

And there are also destinations that are very close to the city and can be reached by train from Valencia.

One of the most recent initiatives to promote rural heritage is Route 99. A small “Valencian Camino de Santiago” that runs through the region from north to south, passing through the least populated rural areas of the Valencian Community.

In fact, the stages of this route are 24 municipalities at risk of depopulation, with less than 100 inhabitants.

The aim of Route 99 is to promote these places of great scenic beauty, highlighting their natural, gastronomic and historical heritage.
Moreover, the initiative is part of a wider plan of actions against the depopulation of rural areas, a problem that affects not only the Valencian Community, but the whole of Spain.

Route 99 is a project that is already looking to the future, as a second phase called “Route 99 Plus” is being planned. Route 99 Plus, which will include other municipalities, will also count on the collaboration of establishments and entities such as the IVAM and the Post Office.

If you want to know more about the Route and create your own itinerary (or do it in its entirety), you will find all the information on the official website.

And to be able to plan your route better, we advise you to take a look at the page of each town with all the details of its places of interest, geographical location, hiking routes, festivities and traditions, etc.

In addition, as it happens in the Camino de Santiago, travellers will receive a credential that will be stamped in each of the towns along the route.

Whether you do it on foot, by bike or motorbike, alone or accompanied, it will surely be an unforgettable experience 😊
So, are you ready to embark on this journey to small places with great charm?

We hope that our post about Route 99 will encourage you to grab your rucksack and discover little-known corners and places in our region.

And to our students of the photography conversation course who want to do the route, we remind not to forget the camera in order to take beautiful pictures of nature and landscapes.

Finally, our Spanish language school El Rincón del Tándem in Valencia wishes you a happy weekend.

See you soon!
