Hacer por hacer. This expression indicates that something is done unnecessarily or pointlessly.

    • La casa ya está muy limpia…limpiarla ahora es hacer por hacer = The house is already very clean… cleaning it now is just a matter of doing for the sake of doing

Hacer la vista gorda, meaning to turn a blind eye, to ignore something that you know is wrong

    • El gerente sabía que habían casos de bullying en la empresa pero hizo la vista gorda = The manager knew there were bullying cases in the company but he turned a blind eye

Hacersele agua la boca. In Spanish we use this expression when something is really appetizing to us, it is mouth-watering.

    • Se me hizo agua la boca cuando vi tu tarta de chocolate = My mouth watered when I saw your chocolate cake

Hacer buenas migas, meaning to get along with someone

  • En el trabajo, Lucas ha hecho buenas migas con Andrea = Lucas git along with Andrea at work

Hacer de tripas corazón, meaning to pluck up courage.

  • Marta hizo de tripas corazón y le pidió un préstamo a su mejor amigo = Marta plucked up courage and asked her best friend for a loan
