Sunday is the International Women’s Day and our Spanish school El Rincón del Tándem is getting ready to celebrate it as every year. Discover what are the main events and activities of International Women’s Day in Valencia by reading our blog 🙂

March 8 is a fundamental date around the world to stand for women’s rights and gender equality. Therefore, this weekend we will participate in many events organized to celebrate International Women’s Day in Valencia.

To help our students of the Spanish course join the most important events, here below we provide some of the main activities and festivals that will take place this weekend.

Feminist Circus Day

Friday 6 and Saturday 7

This month the Valencian Association of Circus dedicates its monthly Circus cabaret to all women on the occasion of March 8. In addition, this year the activities have been increased and the Day will be longer than usual.

The event will begin tonight with a documentary Cineforum at 9:00 p.m. and then continue until the night of the next day.
Among the activities, there will be workshops on theatre of the oppressed and clowns, batucada , popular lunch and a Circus Gala. The latter will be held at the Teatro Agrícola.

Un Vermút con María Cambrils

In this performance Inma Sancho will performs María Cambrils, a feminist journalist and writer.

During this meeting we will discover her history through a simulated interview that will take place in one of the liveliest places in Cabañal.

This event is part of the project “The city of women” developed by the Adonar association with the aim of spreading the history and work of important women from Valencia.

Specifically, it is about making these women’s contributions to social progress and equality visible through activities carried out in Valencian neighbourhoods related to their stories.

Concierto 7M#FemBallarLaRevolucio

La Mutant participates in the International Women’s Day with workshops and playing women’s’ music.

On next Saturday, at 6 p.m., the space will host preparatory activities for the 8th of March demonstration, such as a banner and mask workshop.

At 7 p.m. an all feminine concert will begin.

This fantastic musical night will be opened with the performance of Escarlates, a musical group of women with a lot of energy and vitality. Then a prominent name in the Valencian and feminist rap scene, Tesa, will perform.

Finally, Las Hijas de la Cumbia will take the stage; a duo that pays tribute to cumbia and its variants by playing a repertoire full of rhythms and good vibes.

For those who will feel like keeping dancing, the party will continue at the club La Peligro with the post-party, starting at 00.00.

Toda Fest

Toda Fest is a festival that celebrates women’s day organized by Meme School. A self-managed school of Arts and Crafts in the Cabañal neighbourhood.

This festival celebrates women through creativity and art. In fact, El Toda Fest will host a creative market and an exhibition space.

In addition, its rich programming invites us to participate in many activities that cover different disciplines. From the arts (banner workshop, portrait workshop, silk-screen printing) to healthy food, from music to yoga, etc.

Finally, here below find information of other key events that will take place on the International Women’s Day in Valencia:

March 8 demonstration. As every year in Valencia a with a great march will take place to stand up for women’s rights and gender equality. Under the slogan “Feminism to change the world”, the demonstration will leave on Sunday 8 at 6 p.m. from the IES Luis Vives to end its tour in the Serrano Towers.

In addition, the Feminist Assembly of Valencia organizes many activities on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 in the Plaza de la Virgen.

Carrera 10KFem 2020. Sunday, March 8 from 09 a.m. to 1 p.m. Paseo de Alameda. A Female category race organized by the association Nosotras Deportistas and in collaboration with other organizations and public entities.

Women Make Film: A new road movie through cinema. Until March 12, at the Filmoteca de Valencia. A documentary series by Mark Cousins in 40 chapters on the history of cinema from the perspectives of its best female directors and authors. Recognized actresses will narrate this wonderful journey; among them Jane Fonda and Tilda Swinton. To consult the program of this cycle, click here.
